William Eugene McAnany, Jr.

March 6, 1921 — June 15, 2022

William Eugene “Bill” McAnany, Jr., 101, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born March 6, 1921, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of William Eugene McAnany, Sr. and Ethel Mae (Bell) McAnany.

Bill was a graduate of East Alton-Wood River Community High School in 1938.

Following graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy on October 24, 1938, in St. Louis. Bill was assigned to the USS Solace (military hospital ship) as an X-Ray Technician stationed at Pearl Harbor during the attack on December 7, 1941. Bill served throughout World War II and the Korean War on hospital ships at various battle campaigns. He was discharged from San Diego, California as a Hospital Corpsman – Chief on May 5, 1958.

He was united in marriage on April 10, 1971, in North Kansas City, Missouri to Linda Eileen Herron who survives at the home.

Following his military career, Bill worked for Picker X-Ray Corporation, Radiatronics, Inc., and Philips Medical Systems.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, the Marine Corps League – Central Missouri Detachment, and the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association.

Survivors include wife, Linda McAnany, Jefferson City; nieces and nephews, Diane Brockway, Michele (John) Bloyd, Sharon Lawliss, Bradford (Joanne) Herron, Kurtis (Lisa) Herron, David (Susan) Heller, Shawn (Karen) Heller; and a brother-in-law, Jon (Beverly) Herron.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Ethel Mae Lawliss.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2022, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremy Secrist officiating. Military honors will follow out front of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Entombment will take place at Resurrection Catholic Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Marine Corps League – Central Missouri Detachment; or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
