Wilfrid Edward Bernskoetter

Wilfrid Edward Bernskoetter, 90, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, June 10, 2019, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 20, 1929, in Taos, Missouri, the son of the late Leo and Elenora (Rackers) Bernskoetter.

Wilfrid served his country in the United States Army from 1951-1953.

He was united in marriage on September 1, 1956, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Betty Jean Wolters who survives at the home.

Wilfrid worked for Eno Wolters Plumbing for 15 years. In 1969, he started his own company, Wilfrid Bernskoetter Plumbing, which he operated until 2016.

Wilfrid was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was a life member of DAV Chapter 17 and served as past Chapter President. He was a member of the American Legion Post 5 and a past member of Eagles Aerie 2693, Missouri River Valley Steam Engine Association, board member of the Missouri Association of Plumbing and Heating/Cooling Contractors and served on the Jefferson City Plumbing Board.

He enjoyed spending time on the river, gardening, BBQing and going to the casino. He was grateful he was able to participate in Honor Flight. His greatest love was his wife of 62 years and his family.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; ten children, Ron (Amy) Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; Cathy (Ray) Thompson, Chapin, SC; Mike (Velma) Bernskoetter, Wardsville; Steven (Linda) Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; Carol (Rick) Harris, Wardsville; Gary Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; Diana Bernskoetter (Duane Harris), Jefferson City; Greg (Janell) Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; Julie (Rick) Prather, Jefferson City; Sarah (Jacob) Jones, Jefferson City; 19 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Georgene) Bernskoetter, Taos; and three in-laws, Emily (Vern) Scheulen, Jefferson City; Don (Cathy) Wolters, Jefferson City; and Ken (Alice) Wolters, Holts Summit.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Lucy Ann (Dale) Hudspeth and Lorine (Bobby) Kempker.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with a prayer service at 3:15 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rev. Joshua Duncan officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Central Missouri Honor Flight, or to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.
