Viola M. (Plassmeyer) Hodges

Viola Mary (Plassmeyer) Hodges, 94, of Westphalia, died Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Westphalia Hills. She was born August 27, 1920, in Westphalia, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Loehner) Plassmeyer. She was united in marriage on December 23, 1950, in St. Louis to Forrest David Hodges who preceded her in death on October 18, 1980. A resident of St. Louis since the 1940's, when she graduated from Molers Barber School in 1958, she moved with her husband back to Westphalia. She took over Westphalia's first beauty shop which she owned and operated until her retirement in 1980. She then moved to the Senior Citizens Apartments where she lived until 2013, flying her St. Louis Cardinal flag proudly. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Westphalia Senior Citizens Club. Survivors include her sister, Evelyn Thurman, Farmington; two sisters-in-law, Sabina Plassmeyer, Westphalia; Marilyn Plassmeyer, Jefferson City; her godchildren, Joan Fick, Westphalia; Bernie Mengwasser, Kalispell, Montana; special nephews, Roy Plassmeyer, Freeburg; Dick Plassmeyer, Westphalia; and many more nieces and nephews plus a host of good friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister and brother-in-law, Rita and Adolph Mengwasser; three brothers and one sister-in-law, Herbert and Esther Plassmeyer, Bernard Plassmeyer, and Anthony Plassmeyer; and a brother-in-law, Lynn Thurman. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with the Rev. Anthony Viviano officiating. As per her wishes, her cremated remains will be buried at St. Joseph Cemetery in Westphalia. Memorials are suggested to Masses or to Hospice Compassus, 600 Monroe Street, Suite 100, Jefferson City, Mo 65101. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia is in charge of the arrangements.
