Viola Catherine Smith

Viola Catherine Smith, 99, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at Golden Living Center. She was born on November 21, 1913, in Tipton, Kansas, the daughter of the late John M. and Barbara (Pauly) Smith. She was a 1937 graduate of Cawker City High School in Cawker City, Kansas. Viola worked for Cawker City Telephone Company for twenty-four years and later for a retirement home for five years. She was employed for Charles Still Hospital as a Nurses Aid and Licensed Practical Nurse for fifteen years until retiring in 1970. She was the primary care giver for her parents for many years. Viola was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Daughters of Isabella; St. Ann's Sodality; Immaculata Club; Legion of Mary; and Council of Clubs. She also volunteered for St. Mary's Health Center Auxiliary. Survivors include ten nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four sisters, Esther Jarnagin, Dorothy Summers, Veronica Goetz, and Isabel Jacobson; and three brothers, Edward Smith, John Smith, and Nicholas Smith. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 24, 2013, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. David D. Cox officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25th, at St. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Cawker City, Kansas. Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. Sunday, June 23rd, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 2:45 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Endowment Fund, 1206 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65101.
