Vida Cornelia Gentges, 97, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Adams Street Place.
She was born July 17, 1917 in Seymour, Missouri, the daughter of the late Gurnie Clee and Effie Mae (Goss) Morris.
She was united in marriage on October 19, 1940, in Marshall, Missouri to Rudolph Henry Gentges who preceded her in death on March 8, 2008.
Vida was especially proud that during World War II she worked in St. Louis manufacturing small arms and ammunition for the war. Later, she was well known as a fashion stylist for J. C. Penney's and Schell-Ward.
She was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church, Eagles Auxiliary, Good Sam's Camping Club, and Over 50 Club. Vida was a member of a Painting Club that painted faithfully every Tuesday, a member of a card club and spent hours doing needlework.
Survivors include: one daughter, Nancy Backes, Tipton; one son, John (Henrietta) Gentges, Jefferson City; one brother, Jerry Bob (Beverly) Morris, Sedalia; nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two great-grandchildren, Nick Pettigrew and Megan Backes; three sisters, Arvilla Odle, Bernice Sublet, and Sara Gentges; one brother, Gurni Morris, Jr.; and one son-in-law, Carl Backes.
Visitation will be from 10-12 Noon Tuesday, November 25, 2014, at St. Martin Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 Noon, Tuesday, November 25, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Hoi officiating.
Burial will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery.
