VIRGINIA SHOOP KNOX

Virginia Shoop Knox, 89, of New Bloomfield, MO, died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Boone Hospital Center, Columbia. She was born on Sept. 24, 1916 in Ironton, MO, the daughter of Raymond, Sr. and Lillian Mae Creel Shoop. She was married on July 29, 1939 in Rolla, MO, to William Aziel Knox who died on May 10, 1995. She was a graduate of Jefferson City High School and received an Associate of Arts degree from Jefferson City Junior College. Mrs. Knox was a librarian with Jefferson City Public Library, St. Louis Public Library, University City Public Library, and Mary Institute of St. Louis. She was a member of Unity Christ Church, St. Louis; Past Presidents Club of St. Louis; St. Louis Garden Club; and Music Study Club. She was a past president and fifty-year member of the Twentieth Century art Club of St. Louis and a former membership chairman of St. Lukes Hospital Auxiliary. She was an active volunteer with Hamilton Convalescent Home in St. Louis for twenty-eight years. She received the first Presidents Call to Service Award from President George W. Bush in 2005 for her donation of more than five thousand hours of volunteer service to St. Lukes Hospital in St. Louis from 1954 to 1994. Survivors include one daughter, C. Charlet Knox Quay, New Bloomfield, MO; three sisters-in-law, Christiane Shoop, Jefferson City; Marie Jones, Clarksville, MO; and Edyie Knox, Troy, MO; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Shoop Kirby; and one brother, Raymond Shoop, Jr. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Burial will be in Star Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Elsberry, MO. Friends are invited to greet the family following the service.
