The Rev. Alberta Gillett Hepler

The Rev. Alberta Gillett Kibbey "Berta" Hepler, 75, of Jefferson City, died Friday, September 16, 2016, at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born on January 13, 1941, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of the late Joseph Gillett Kibbey and Cornelia Harbaugh Kibbey. Her grandparents were the late Frank and Maude (Pierce) Kibbey, and Cornelius and Emma (Knoch) Harbaugh of Kansas City, Mo. She was married on August 25, 1963, in Jefferson City to Wayne Charles Hepler, son of the late Ira M. Hepler and Gertrude E. (Harrison) Hepler, who survives at the home. Mrs. Hepler was a 1959 graduate of Jefferson City High School; received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University; a Master of Arts degree from the University of Tulsa; and a Master of Divinity degree from Drew University. She also attended William Patterson University in their Post-Master non-degree program. Berta taught school in Oklahoma, New York, and New Jersey. She was a member of First Christian Church and First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City. Her joy was baking cookies and sweet breads. A hobby later in life was entering items in the Cole County Fair where she won many awards. She had an interest in nutrition and managed her family's healthy diets. She also loved to travel. She was a member of the Jane Randolph Jefferson Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Other survivors include one son, Bradford Hepler, Ph.D., of Greenbelt, Md.; one brother, Eldon (Sandy) Kibbey, Indianapolis, Ind.; and a nephew, Timothy (Amy) Kibbey, Huntsville, Ala. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday, September 24th, at First Christian Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 24, 2016, at First Christian Church, Jefferson City. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. David Henry and the Rev. Sarah Kingsbery. Burial will be Riverview Cemetery, Jefferson City. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 2413 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109; First Christian Church, 327 East Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or First Presbyterian Church, 324 Madison Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
