Stephen Joseph Suthoff

Stephen Joseph Suthoff, 68, of St. Thomas, passed away Monday, July 30, 2018, working on his farm in St. Thomas.
He was born July 27, 1950, in Jefferson City, the son of Andrew Henry and Celeste Elizabeth (Strope) Suthoff.
Steven was a 1968 graduate of Helias High School and received his Bachelors degree in Animal Science from the University of Missouri in Columbia.
He was united in marriage on July 8, 1972, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia to Lucy Ann Berhorst who survives at the home.
Stephen spent his life working on his farm and as a livestock feed consultant. He was active with the Missouri Pork Producers Association.
He was a member of the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas, Knights of Columbus, and the St. Thomas Bowling Association. He was a 4-H leader and in college was a member of the MU livestock judging team which twice finished first in the nation over all the national collegiate livestock judging teams.
Stephen loved being with family and friends, card playing, playing ping pong, bowling, driving hay rides, a good joke, and sometimes a grumpy look. He valued education, commitment, high expectations and a certain level of tolerance. He enjoyed reading and writing and was always willing to help others.
His greatest love was his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his grandchildrens sporting events and activities. He centered his life around his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Suthoff, St. Thomas; his mother, Celeste (Strope) Suthoff, St. Thomas; three daughters, Jennifer (Josh) Schroeder, Meta; Sara (David) Otto, St. Thomas; Angie (David) Wallace, Columbia; ten grandchildren, Dunja Schroeder, Caleb Schroeder, Ashleigh Schroeder, Luke Schroeder, Nicole Otto, Natalie Otto, Will Otto, Wyatt Otto, Samuel Wallace, Ella Wallace; and seven siblings, Sam (Shelley) Suthoff, St. Peters; Nancy Wekenborg, Jefferson City; Jim (Diane) Suthoff, Springfield; Diane (Jim) Holzer, Weldon Springs; Doug (Deanne) Suthoff, Clinton; Jeff Suthoff, Jefferson City; and Scott (Tracy) Suthoff, St. Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Suthoff; his son, David Suthoff; and a brother-in-law, Dan Wekenborg.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018, at St. Thomas Parish Hall in St. Thomas with a prayer service at 3 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2018, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in St. Thomas with the Rev. Mark Porterfield officiating.
Burial will be in St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the St. Thomas Catholic School or to Shriners Hospital.
