Stella Elizabeth Henley

January 28, 1926 — September 5, 2013

Stella Elizabeth Henley, 87, of Jefferson City, went into the arms of her heavenly Father on Thursday evening, September 5, 2013 at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born on January 28, 1926, in Mary's Home, the daughter of the late Lawrence Albert and Elizabeth Frances "Lizzie" Beautel Schulte. She was married on December 26, 1944, in Altus, Oklahoma, to the love of her life, Sgt. Kenneth Arnold Henley, who died on September 26, 1981. Mrs. Henley worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue for fifteen years, retiring in 1990. When she was fifteen years old, she began working as a cafeteria cook in Jefferson City. From 1943-1945, she worked for a military factory in Kirkwood, Missouri making parts for military equipment. She was a loyal parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church where she belonged to the Ladies Sodality; Daughters of Isabella; a long-time member of the Sew and Sews Quilting Club; and the American Legion. Stella loved to piece and quilt many beautiful quilts, presenting each grandchild with one of her lovely creations at the time of their marriage. She and Kenneth enjoyed league bowling for many years. She loved to play card games, especially Pitch, and was always a formidable opponent. She was happiest when surrounded by family for holidays or Sunday morning brunches where she cooked everyone's favorite dishes. No one ever left her house hungry. Dancing was another favorite activity, especially waltzes. She made sure all of her grandkids knew how to waltz; they often practiced in her kitchen while she cooked. She loved to spoil her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with cookies, strawberry jelly and meatloaf. Survivors include: two sons, Gary Kenneth (Annette) Henley, Henley, MO; and Roger Dale (Sue) Henley, Crystal River, FL and Lohman; four grandchildren, Craig (Kimberly) Henley, Springfield; Myron Christian (Erin) Henley, Chesterfield; Corinne (fianc Steve Joplin) Henley, Columbia; and Dana (Damon) Northweather, Lohman; step-granddaughter, Darla Jungmeyer, Friday Harbor, WA; and seven great-grandchildren, Braden Henley, and twins, Dawson Henley and Dylan Henley, Springfield; Averyana Henley and Chase Henley, Chesterfield; and Harper Northweather and McCoy Northweather, Lohman. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Crescentia "Pat" Jenkins and Freda Spencer; and two brothers, Anthony "Tony" Schulte and infant Alfred Schulte. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, September 9, 2013, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Colin P. Franklin officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church Building Fund, 216 Broadway Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65101; Masses; or SSM Hospice, 1241 W. Stadium Blvd. Suite L201, Jefferson City, MO 65109. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
