Samuel Lee Yancey, 70, of O'Fallon, Missouri passed away Saturday, March 18, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born January 10, 1947, in Portland, Oregon, the son of Charles Franklin and Delphine Ann (Bexten) Yancey. Sam attended northeast Kansas City schools and graduated from Fatima High School in 1965. Sam served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era with the 2nd Battalion 31st Artillery. He was united in marriage on October 8, 2005, in St. Louis, to Lori Anne Messer who survives at the home. Sam retired with 40 years of service with the Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 562 in St. Louis. He also worked for his Dad at his plumbing business in Kansas City and with Harold G. Butzer, Inc. in Jefferson City. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dardenne Prairie, Missouri, Knights of Columbus in Jefferson City, and the Jefferson City Jaycees. Sam was a member of the 1974-1979 Mid-State Oil Softball team and was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame and the Missouri ASA Hall of Fame in 2010. Sam loved summers visiting his grandparents in Folk, Missouri and spending time in their grocery store, enjoyed league bowing, spending countless hours with his daughters shooting hoops and coaching/attending their games, playing golf, and was his happiest spending time with his family including his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Lori Yancey, O'Fallon; his mother, Delphine Yancey, Jefferson City; two daughters, Laurie (Kent) Herzing, Jefferson City; Rachel (Curt) Lehmen, Westphalia; four grandchildren, Cole Lehmen, Nathan Lehmen, Addison Lehmen, Kendal Herzing; and three siblings, Judy (Joe) Kilburn, Leavenworth, KS; Sandra (Larry) Bexten, Jefferson City; and Donna (Rod) Breuer, Roland, AR. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles F. Yancey; and one infant son. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, March 22nd at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, March 23rd, 2017, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Anthony Viviano officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
