Sgt. Gary Dwayne Durk (Ret.), 60, of Jefferson City, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at the VA Hospital in Columbia, Mo due to injuries sustained while deployed in Iraq. He was born on April 29, 1949, in Columbia, Mo, the son of Charles Lee and Marie Boatman Durk. He was united in marriage on June 15, 1980, in Jefferson City, to Marylin Hoback Mahlan who survives at the home. Gary was a United States Army National Guard Sergeant who served in Iraq. He was a long-time Teamsters driver for over thirty years and most recently with Farmers Concrete in Jefferson City, and UPS in Columbia. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Jefferson City, Teamsters Local 688, American Legion, and VFW Post 35. Other survivors include: three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lisa Roark, Bolivar, Mo; Laura and Dave Lowe, Springfield, Mo; Lanie and Darin Wilken, Springfield, Mo; one son and daughter-in-law, Major Christopher and Tina Durk, Stuttgart, Germany; seven grandchildren, Michael Delaney; James Lowe; Rachel (Daniel) Warnica; Hanna Wilken; Ben Wilken; Cydnee Durk; Christina Durk; soon-to-be born baby girl Durk; his step-mother, Ester Fetterhoff and her husband, Garry, Columbia, Mo; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Jan and Larry Ray DeOrnellis, Pittsburg, Ks; Judy and Mack Burnett, Wichita, Ks; Kathy Durk, Kansas City, Ks; three brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim and Irene Hoback; Larry and Betsy Hoback; Dennis and Vicki Hoback, all of California, Mo; several nieces and nephews; and one great niece. He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law, Hubert and Venita Hoback; two sisters-in-law, Betty Bickel and Phyllis Walters; his grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Daniel P. Hilty officiating. Graveside services with full military honors will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Cemetery in Columbia, Mo. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
