Rosalie Delaney Little, 78, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Adams Street Place. She was born May 30, 1935, in Charleston, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Charles Clarence and Agnes Bain (Thornton) Delaney. Rosalie was a 1953 graduate of University of Arkansas Lab School in Fayetteville, Arkansas and was a 1970 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She was united in marriage on January 23, 1954, in Fayetteville, Arkansas to James Hugh Little who survives at the home. Rosalie worked for the Grace Nursery School at Grace Episcopal Church in Jefferson City from 1967-1968. She then directed the Pre-Kindergarten program for the First United Methodist Church from 1969-1976. In 1981 she became the Executive Director of the Jefferson City Daycare Center where she oversaw the expansion of the not-for-profit daycare center with quality and affordable day care for low-income working families. Rosalie retired from the center in 1994, leaving a lasting legacy for the community. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, member and past president of P.E.O Chapter BW, member and past president of the Tuesday Club, member of the Council of Clubs, and was a member of the Association for the Education of Young Children. Rosalie was involved in the Creative Writer's Society, Meals on Wheels, and Learning in Retirement. She also was a member of the United Way Agency Director's Council. Rosalie was a former Docent for the Governor's Mansion for twelve years and was an Ambassador for the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce. Rosalie was a member of Zonta Club of Jefferson City where she had served as President. In 2003, Rosalie was the recipient of Zonta Club's first Mrs. William H. Weldon Lifetime Achievement Award. In addition to her husband, James Little of Jefferson City, she is survived by three siblings, Mary Belle (Delbert) Ervin, Charleston, Ark.; Agnes Wise, Columbia, SC; and Samuel (Patricia) Delaney, Chapin, SC. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, James Andrew Little; and a brother, Charles Delaney. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2014, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel P. Hilty officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church to be used for Sunday School to benefit young children, 201 Monroe Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65101.
