Ronald William Verslues

Ronald William "RJ" Verslues, 62, of Taos, passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 31, 2014, at his home. He was born on October 3, 1951, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Albert Henry and Regina Mary (Berhorst) Verslues. Ron was a member of the first graduating class of Blair Oaks High School in 1969. In 1980, Ron married Patty Forck at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Ron served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He was a Motor Transport Operator and had also served a tour in Alaska. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Driver's Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. Ron worked for thirty-five years with the Laborer's Local Union 662. He worked for several local contractors and worked on numerous refuels at the Callaway Power Plant outages. He retired in May of 2008. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos, the Knights of Columbus, and served on the Executive Board for the Laborer Union 662. Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. His greatest love and enjoyment were his two daughters, Nicole and Rachel. Survivors include two daughters: Nicole Renee (Nathan) Timmerman, North Liberty, Iowa; Rachel Diane Verslues, Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Kenadi Ann Timmerman; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Larry Winegar, Jefferson City; Sandy and Felix Reinkemeyer, Taos; Julie and Ken "Butch" Twehous, Loose Creek; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Judy Verslues, Jefferson City; Daniel "Cotton" and Marilyn "Cookie" Verslues, Taos; Dale and Emilie Verslues, Taos; Wayne and Brenda Verslues, Taos; Kevin and Carol Verslues, New Bloomfield; and a sister-in-law, Janet Verslues, Taos. He was also preceded in death by his parents a brother, Charles Verslues; and a nephew, Chuck Verslues. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 4, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos, with the Rev. Wayne M. Boyer officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 7319 Route M, Jefferson City, Mo 65101; or to the family of Ron Verslues to be donated toward Cancer research.
