Ronald Frederick Blake, 78, of Holts Summit, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born July 22, 1938, in East Chicago, Indiana, the son of the late Fred and Katherine (Sloboda) Blake. He was united in marriage to Mary Ruth Gist on July 22, 1957, in East Chicago, IN. She preceded him in death on March 11, 2004. Ron and his wife, Ruthie, enjoyed travelling and camping with their two young sons, Mickey and Ricky. Ron was a graduate of Fontana High School in Fontana, CA. He graduated from DeVry Univ. with an Associates Degree. Ron taught electrical repair at Perdue Univ. in Valparaiso, IN. Ron served his country in the U. S. Navy from 1957-1959 on the USS Neosho. While in service he received a certificate of honor for being an honored shellback and was initiated into the Solemn Mysteries of the Ancient Order of Shellbacks. Throughout his life Ron worked for several steel mills in the East Chicago, IN area. Later, he and his family moved to Missouri where Ron worked as an electrical engineer at Callaway County Nuclear Plant. Following his retirement from the nuclear plant, he drove a school bus nineteen years for the Jefferson City Public School District. Survivors include his son, Ricky Blake, Boonville; three grandchildren, Stephanie, Crystal, Derrick; and several great-grandchildren; three sisters, Sharon Blake, Montclair, CA; Debbie (and husband Brad) Simpson, Fontana, CA; and Dolores Willardo, Ft. Wayne, IN; and a close friend, Elizabeth Smith, Holts Summit, MO. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Michael "Mickey" Blake; and a sister, Darlene Trombly. Ron faithfully attended Calvary Assembly of God Church in Jefferson City where he made many friends. He loved the Lord and expressed that love through many acts of kindness to those he knew. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Calvary Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jeff Higbie and Rev. Walter Gilpin officiating. Military honors will follow the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will be in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
