Richard Paul Scheidt

Richard Paul Scheidt, 89, of St. Martins, died Friday, June 6, 2014, at his home. He was born on July 4, 1924, in California, Mo., the son of the late Erben John and Cornelia Caroline (Weigel) Scheidt. Richard served in the United States Army as a 1st Sergeant during World War II. Richard was a 1942 graduate of St. Peter High School where he played the trombone in the band. He later received his Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmaceuticals from Kansas City University (now UMKC). He was united in marriage on June 14, 1947, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Clare H. Backes who preceded him in death on January 10, 1997. Richard worked as a Pharmacist for Brandenberger Drug Store and Fisher Drug Store for over 50 years. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and the VFW in St. Martins. He was the Scout Master with the Boy Scout Troop 104 at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City and received the St. George Award for his dedication to the Boy Scouts. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, and especially enjoyed going to the gambling boats. Survivors include: three children, Lynn Vogel, Springfield, Mo; John (Denise) Scheidt, Charlotte, NC; Tony (Donna) Scheidt, Russellville; one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Scheidt, New Bloomfield; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Hampton, Columbia; one brother-in-law, Gus Lehr, Columbia; and five special care givers, Diana Finnie, Erica Scheidt, Melanie Friggle, Edi Lambert, and Jody Farris. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Richard Scheidt, Jr.; and two sisters, Elaine Lehr and Virginia Schrimpf. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Monday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Day Care Center, 1002 Myrtle Ave., Jefferson City, Mo 65109; or to St. Martin Catholic School, 7206 St. Martins Ave., Jefferson City, Mo 65109.
