Raymond Harold Barger

Raymond Harold Barger, 93, of Jefferson City, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, November 23, 2013, at Adams Street Place. He was born on September 15, 1920, in Cole County, the son of the late Virgil and Lydia Emma (Schwaller) Barger. Mr. Barger was a United States Navy veteran serving during World War II. While in the Navy he served in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters, participated in 13 sea battles and witnessed the signing of the Peace Treaty in Tokyo Bay. On August 11, 1944, in Jefferson City, he was united in marriage to Agnes Betreace Bunch who still survives. Mr. Barger worked for Missouri Power and Light Company for 34 years as a groundman and tree trimmer. He was a charter member and deacon of Memorial Baptist Church, Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, and United Commercial Travelers. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Linda (Ray) Bledsoe, Jefferson City; Susan (John) Bosch, Jefferson City; Rebecca (Edward) Kniest, Jefferson City; five grandchildren, Shannon Bledsoe, Christopher Bledsoe Rainey, Jay Bosch, Stephanie Bosch, Andrew Kniest; 1 step-grandchild, Lisa Lasker; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Memorial Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Towns officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to missions at Memorial Baptist Church, 1120 Madison Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65101; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
