RUTH MARY MERTENS

October 6, 1919 — February 4, 2008

Ruth Mary Mueller Mertens, 88, of Wardsville, died Monday, February 4, 2008, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on October 6, 1919, in Cole County, the daughter of Otto and Eleanora Nora DeBroeck Mueller. She was married on February 14, 1942 in Jefferson City to Bernard Henry Mertens. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2000. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Her life was centered around her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a life long homemaker. She enjoyed cooking which was loved by everyone, gardening, and sewing; either a baby quilt, Christmas stockings, or quilts for her children and grandchildren. Survivors include: four daughters and their husbands, Peggy Borgmeyer (Roger), California; Lisa Buschjost (Jim), Jefferson City; Janice Verslues (Ernie), Columbia; and Carol Lage (Wilbur), Jefferson City; four sons and their wives, Otto Dick Mertens (Carol), Independence, MO; Michael Mertens (Rose), Jefferson City; Tim Mertens (Betty Jo), Jefferson City; and Mark Mertens (Marsha), Imperial, MO; 25 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; three sisters, Julie Weber, Nora Lee Conrad, and Margie Brondel (Ray), all of Jefferson City; one brother, Gilbert Mueller (Myrtis), Lake Charles, La.; and two sisters-in-law, Alice Mertens, Wichita, Ks.; and Pauline Bretthorst, St. Louis. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons, Lucas Borgmeyer and Michael Mertens, Jr.; two sisters, Catherine Siebeneck and Adell Clark; and one brother, Edgar Mueller. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with the Rev. J. David Maher and Rev. Brendan P. Doyle concelebrating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials are suggested to the St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery Fund, 6418 Route W., Jefferson City, MO 65101.
