ROSE MARY VOGEL

Rose Mary Vogel, 88, Jefferson City, died Tuesday, June 28, 2005, at Villa Marie Nursing Facility. She was born March 29, 1917, in Jefferson City, the daughter of Ernst C. and Rose M. Dulle Moerschel. She was married Oct. 21, 1942, in Jefferson City to Carl F. Vogel who died on Oct. 11, 1973. Mrs. Vogel was a 1935 graduate of St. Peter High School and was the first football queen. She attended Webster College in St. Louis and was a member of the first class at St. Louis University to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing Education in 1940. She was a registered nurse with St. Marys Hospital prior to her marriage and later returned to hospital nursing after raising her family. She retired in 1984. She was a volunteer with the American Red Cross, teaching first aid classes and assisting with the Blood Mobile. She also assisted with the Cole Co. Well-Baby clinic. Rose Mary was the granddaughter of Jacob F. and Bertha Moerschel who donated the land for use as a hospital served by the Sisters of St. Mary. She and her family are honorary chairmen of St. Marys 2005 Centennial Celebration and Campaign. Her Grandfather Moerschel founded Capital Brewery in 1892, located on the historic Southside, which began bottling Coca-Cola in 1905. She served as chairman of the board. She was a great-granddaughter of the founder of G.H. Dulle Milling Co. in Mill Bottom, located down the hill from historic St. Peter Church. The Dulle family manufactured and donated the bricks used in the construction of the church. She resided in the G.H. Dulle home where members of the family have lived continuously since it was built in 1858. An only child, Rose Mary loved her cousins and her husbands sisters and their husbands as if they were her own sisters and brothers. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Rose and Alan Mengwasser, Jefferson City; Emily and Marvin Talken, Taos; and Councilman Edith Vogel, Jefferson City; one son and daughter-in-law, Senator Carl M. and Kimberly Vogel, Jefferson City; nine grandchildren, U.S. Navy Lieutenant Alan Mengwasser and his wife, Rebecca, Ft. Meade, Maryland; John Mengwasser, Anthony Mengwasser and his wife, Claire, Paul Mengwasser, and Patrick Mengwasser, all of Jefferson City; Matthew Talken, Taos; Stephen Talken, Denver, CO; and Jacob Vogel and Kristen Vogel, both of Jefferson City; one great-grandson, Joshua Mengwasser; and a sister-in-law, Anna Marie Liloia, Belleville, NJ. She was preceded in death by an infant grandson, Joseph Mengwasser. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2005, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Jeremy A. Secrist officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. Friday, July 1st, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Cathedral of Saint Joseph, 2305 W.
