ROBERT LEE WITTHAR

December 27, 1931 — June 29, 2008

Robert Lee Witthar, 76, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, June 29, 2008, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on Dec. 27, 1931, in Mt. Leonard, Mo., the son of the late Joseph and Stella Kuchinski Witthar. He was married on Sept. 30, 1961, in Kansas City, Mo., to Dorothy Marie Mischlich who survives at the home. Mr. Witthar retired in 1996 as a railroad safety inspector with the Missouri Public Service Commission where he had been employed for twenty-seven years. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral where he served as an usher and communion minister. A federally licensed Amateur Radio Operator with the Advanced Class call sign of WB0TPK, he was an active member of the Mid-MO Amateur Radio Club. Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Anita and Douglas Surface, Raytown, Mo.; and Julie and Casey Ryan, Downers Grove, Ill.; five grandchildren, Jacob Hoppe, Caleb Hoppe, Cody Surface, Lily Ryan, and Violet Ryan; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Dick Doherty, Lake Ozark. Mo.; and Thelma and Jerry Putnam, Belton, Mo.; and one brother, Joseph Witthar, Branson, Mo. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 2, 2008, at the Cathedral of Saint Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 1st, at St. Joseph Cathedral with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Cathedral, 2301 W. Main St., Jefferson City, MO 65109.
