Patrick Richard Lock, 73, of Eldon, Missouri, died Tuesday, October 21, 2014, at Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Center in Jefferson City. He was born on July 27, 1941, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Frank Ellis and Loraine Catherine (Wekenborg) Lock. He was a 1959 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He spent his career with the United States Navy and the U. S. National Guard as a utility helicopter repairman and an aircraft pneudraulics repairman. He served on the USS Enterprise and the USS Essex. When he was stationed in New Mexico he did weapon testing and spent a short time doing field testing in Vietnam. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, Patrick hunted Russian submarines carrying nuclear missiles, as well as photographing nuclear missiles aboard Russian freighters. It was during this time that he received his injury. Patrick was married on March 21, 1969, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Janie Mae Wood who preceded him in death on January 13, 1992. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, working in the outdoors, and always had a project he was working on. He collected model cars, native American memorabilia, rare coins, and WW-II era rifles. Survivors include his son, Grant Hadley Lock, Eldon; one sister, Glessie Marie Surface, Taos; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Arlene Powell, Dorothy Wheeler, and Iona Bommel; two nephews, Danny Wheeler, and Mitch Surface; and one great-niece, Cory Nicole Surface. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 24, 2014, at Saint Peter Catholic Church with the Reverend Alex Gabriel officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Patrick Richard Lock Memorial Fund, or Saint Jude Children's Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
