Oscar Darnell Dunbar

Oscar Darnell Dunbar, 77, of Jefferson City, MO died Saturday, January 12, 2013, at St. Mary's Health Center. He was born on August 10, 1935, in Lake Village, Arkansas, the son of the late Rufus and Thelma (Tolliver) Dunbar. Mr. Dunbar attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City. His wife of 47 years, Clara Mae Smith preceded him in death. Mr. Dunbar served in the United States Army for over 20 years retiring as a Master Sergeant. He later worked as a caseworker for the Missouri Department of Corrections where he retired after 26 years of service. He was an active member of Quinn Chapel AME Church, American Legion post 231, and the Capital City Masonic Lodge #9. Mr. Dunbar enjoyed gardening, reading, and watching sports. His greatest love and devotion was to his family. Survivors include: four children, Zachary Dunbar, St. Louis; LaSonya Dunbar, Jefferson City; Billy (Jannie) Dunbar, Jefferson City; Miker Dunbar, Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Billy Dunbar II, Oklahoma; Loretha Dunbar, St. Louis; Donovan (Danielle)Dennis, England; Taylor Dunbar, Kansas City, MO; Cambrea Dunbar, Jefferson City; Nia Dunbar, Jefferson City; and two step-grandchildren, Atilvia Spencer, Ashley Spencer both of Jefferson City. He was also preceded in death by two daughters, Rosayln Dennis and Pershelle Dunbar. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 19, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at Quinn Chapel A.M.E. Church 529 Lafayette Jefferson City, MO. Burial will be at Tolliver Dunbar Cemetery in Lake Village Arkansas. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.
