ORVAL ROGER MILLER, SR.

February 16, 1927 — January 11, 2009

Orval Roger Mike Miller, Sr., 81, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, January 11, 2009, at his residence. He was born on Feb. 16, 1927, in Kingsford, Mich., the son of Walter A. and Alma Yonker Miller. He was united in marriage on Jan. 19, 1957, in Miami, Ok., to Margarett Maxine Appling who survives at the home. He was a United States Army veteran beginning his career as a U.S Merchant Marine; and serving in the United States Army during World War II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam. He retired holding the rank of First Sergeant and received the WWII Victory Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Asiatic Pacific Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Expert Badge (Rifle), two Bronze Stars, and the Purple Heart. Orval worked for the Dept. of Corrections at the Church Farm Correctional Facility from 1970-1990 retiring as a Chief Engineer. He was a Third Degree Master Mason, and Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star, and a member of the Shriners. Other survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Steve Gerstner, Jefferson City; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gene and Dean Miller, Olean, Mo; Orval Roger Miller, Jr., Austin, TX; five grandchildren, Debbie Crisler; SrA Christopher Gerstner, USAF; A1C Daniel Gerstner, USAF; Taylor Gerstner; Maria Miller, two great-grandchildren; and two brothers and one sister-in-law, Wallace and Rose Miller, Tahlequah, Ok; and Ralph Miller, Santa Ana, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Michael McDaniel; and two brothers, Melvin Miller and Lyle Miller. Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be in Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society, 2413 Hyde Park Rd., Jefferson City, Mo 65109.
