Mildred Ann Landwehr

Mildred Ann (Bode) Landwehr, age 102 years, of Jefferson City, Missouri, died Saturday, April 14, 2018, at her home surrounded by family. She was born on July 10, 1915, at the Bode Farm, Cole County, Missouri, the daughter of Stephan and Johanna Bode. She attended St. Francis Xavier Catholic School, Taos. She made her First Holy Communion, was confirmed, and was married in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church to Frank J. Landwehr on October 20, 1941. Frank passed away on September 20, 1994. Mildred and Frank raised their family and operated a dairy farm on East McCarty Street until 1964. They began to develop Landwehr Hills Subdivision in 1965. She was always happy to be a farmers wife and a stay-at-home mom. Her main ambition in life was to love and care for her husband and children. Mildred was a member of Immaculate Conception Church for over eighty years. She served on the Parish Council for two years and was a member of the St. Anns Sodality and the Legion of Mary. She helped with funeral luncheons for many years. Mildred also worked with the Girls Scouts and Boy Scouts of Immaculate Conception School and sewed all the neckerchiefs for the new scouts at Troop 6. With her prayers and encouragement, she was proud to have two sons and a grandson who became Eagle Scouts. Mildred was a member of the Missouri Extension Homemakers Association that started in 1944 with 43 members. She was one of the founders of the East Side Betterment Association formed in 1965. It is now called the East Side Business Association. Mildred loved gardening, canning, and freezing for her family. She said that she did not grow many flowers because she was too busy taking care of her family and her children were her flowers. Mildreds long time hobby was making quilts for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She loved baking homemade bread to share with her family, friends, and neighbors. She loved to grow orchids on her windowsills because they are so beautiful and so easy to grow. Survivors include: five children: Stephana Landwehr of Jefferson City, Carl Landwehr (Carolyn) of Jefferson City, Thomas Landwehr (Diane) of Jefferson City, John Landwehr (Peggy) of Jefferson City, and Frank Landwehr (Mary) of Jupiter, FL; eleven grandchildren: Theresa Heckman (Bryan), Eric Landwehr (Stacy), Matthew Landwehr (Katie), Christopher Landwehr (Christie), Michael Landwehr (Pamela), Elizabeth Landwehr, Becca Landwehr (Joseph Sheperty), David Landwehr, Ryan Landwehr, Katie Landwehr, and Michael Landwehr; fifteen great-grandchildren: Gabrielle Scheuler (Josh), Abaigeal Heckman, Kyle Landwehr, Jeremiah Heckman, Nathanael Landwehr, William Heckman, Lillian Landwehr, Zachary Landwehr, Logan Landwehr, Harrison Landwehr, Benjamin Landwehr, Samuel Landwehr, Emily Landwehr, Lauren Landwehr, and Jane Landwehr; one sister: Helen Blume; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 52 years, Frank, an infant son, John, on November 29, 1943, four sisters and four brothers. A prayer service will be held at 2:15 p.m. on Thursday April 19 at Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City with visitation to follow from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday April 20 at Immaculate Conception Church with the Reverend Don Antweiler officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Frank J.
