Mary Ann Carter

Mary Ann Carter, 92, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, May 10, 2014, at Autumn Meadows Nursing Home in Linn, Missouri. She was born June 18, 1921, in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of the late John Ferdinand and Gertrude Marie (Lahr) Busby. Mary Ann was a 1937 graduate of Maryville High School and a 1941 graduate of Northwest Missouri State Teachers College in Maryville, Mo. She was united in marriage on July 10, 1945, in Maryville, to James Arthur Carter, Sr. He preceded her in death on September 28, 1987. Mary Ann was an English teacher for Shenandoah High School in Shenandoah, Iowa, Horace Mann High School in Maryville, and Helias High School in Jefferson City. She also worked as a clerk for the Division of Employment Security in Jefferson City. She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and Legion of Mary. Mary Ann enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting. Survivors include: six children, John (Tammy) Carter, Mechanicsburg, Pa; Robert Carter, Jefferson City; James (Rose) Carter, Jr., Jefferson City; Michael (Beverly) Carter, Morgantown, WV; Edward Carter, Jefferson City; Barbara (Ron) Matthews, Overland Park, KS; a daughter-in-law, Karen Carter, Oklahoma City, OK; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Busby, Maryville, Mo. She was preceded in death by her parents, John F. and Gertrude (Lahr) Busby; her husband, James A. Carter, Sr.; a son, Thomas Carter; a sister, Barbara Busby; and a brother, John Busby. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2014, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki, officiating. Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Maryville, Missouri.
