Marianna Montgomery Niblack

Marianna Montgomery Niblack, 98, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Capital Region Medical Center, surrounded by her family. She had been a resident of Jefferson City since 1972. She was born July 31, 1917, in Illmo, Missouri, the daughter of the late Rev. John Carroll Montgomery and Ella Mae (Dickey) Montgomery. She grew up in a loving parsonage home in Missouri towns where her father served Methodist pastorates, including Jackson, Cape Girardeau, and St. Louis. Following graduation from Roosevelt High School in St. Louis, she attended Harris Teachers College and graduated from what is now Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. She then taught primary grades in Kennett and Cape Girardeau, MO. She married Rev. Marvin E. Niblack on June 6, 1939. They served a number of United Methodist churches in Missouri, including in East Prairie, Steele, St. Louis, and Caruthersville. Her husband was the District Superintendent of the Jefferson City-Rolla District when he died suddenly in 1976. They had been married for 37 years. Marianna's Christian faith shone through her whole life. She was a life-long Methodist, and her husband, father, son, and brother were all United Methodist ministers. She was the mother of two sons, Rev. Philip Marvin Niblack (Adele) of Manchester, MO who passed away in 2009, and William Carroll Niblack (Ruth) of Chesterfield, MO. She was also the proud grandmother of Lisa Cashion Staib (Ted) of Oakton, VA and Jeffrey Marvin Niblack (Megan) of Minneapolis, MN and great-grandmother of Juniper Ellen O'Meara Niblack and Beatrix Frances O'Meara Niblack. She is also survived by her brother, Rev. J.C. Montgomery, Jr., of St Charles, MO, her sister, Mathilde Montgomery Najjar, of Nashville, TN and by nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Following her husband's death, she had worked for the Masonic Grand Lodge of Missouri and the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce. Marianna was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City and P.E.O. Chapter HM. She had been a member of P.E.O. for 50 years and had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 AM Friday, November 13 at First United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM on Friday November 13 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Daniel Hilty officiating. Burial will be Saturday, November 14 at 12:30 PM at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson, MO. Memorials are suggested to the Rev. Marvin E.
