Marian Fay Kuster

January 27, 1922 — May 23, 2020

Marian Fay Kuster, 98, of Jefferson City (formerly of Linn), passed away peacefully Saturday, May 23, 2020, surrounded by her family.

She was born January 27, 1922, on the family farm near Harrisburg, Missouri, the daughter of the late Floyd J. and Eunice (Blakemore) March.

She was a graduate of Hickman High School, earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1943, and then later earned her master’s degree.

She was united in marriage on July 27, 1946, in Linn, Missouri to Cecil William Kuster, who preceded her in death on June 19, 1992.

Marian’s family valued education and made many sacrifices for her education. Her father drove her in a horse and buggy to the neighborhood one-room schoolhouse until she was old enough to ride her own horse to school. In order to attend high school and college, she lived with her grandparents during the week, in Columbia. Marian taught high school home economics and also was an elementary and junior high school classroom teacher, primarily in the school districts of Osage County R-III and R-II. Marian and her husband Cecil owned and operated various businesses, primarily dealing with real estate.

For most of her life, Marian was a member of St. George Church in Linn, Missouri. She enjoyed family vacations during the summer and more extensive traveling in her retirement years. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, needlepoint, and sharing her experiences of life on the farm.

Survivors include her two sons, Michael (Terri) Kuster, Jefferson City; Mark (Rena) Kuster, Wardsville; eight grandchildren, Michael (Liz) Kuster, Katie (Darren) Thoman, John (Brianna) Kuster, Anne Kuster (fiancé Klayton Simmons), Amanda (Jeff) Hall, Jennifer Comstock, Morgan Kuster, Sam Kuster; and nine great-grandchildren, Matthew Kuster, Emily Kuster, Finn Thoman, Nora Thoman, Lane Thoman, Madeline Kuster, Paxton Hall, Greyson Comstock, and Harrison Comstock.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Louis M. Nelen officiating.

Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
