MILDRED MARGARET WANKUM

July 5, 1919 — November 24, 2005

Mildred Margaret Wankum, 86, formerly of Jefferson City, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2005, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester, MN. She was born on July 5, 1919 in Rogers, MN, the daughter of Joseph Martin and Josephine M. Hentges Distler. She was married on July 18, 1942 in San Diego, CA to Joseph Leo Wankum who died on June 24, 2000. A homemaker, Mrs. Wankum was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Rochester, MN; Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Cherokee, IA; and Catholic Daughters of America. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Evelyn and Edward Karkut, Staunton, IL; Carol A. Robson, Rochester, MN; and Paulette C. and Lynn McMahon, Rochester, MN; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary J. and Mary Polly Wankum, Lohman; and Richard W. and Rita Wankum, Jefferson City; ten grandchildren; two sisters, Bernadine Poetker and Irene Kuebler, both of Jefferson City; and one brother and three sisters-in-law, Clem and Rose Distler, California, MO; and Charleen Distler and Agnes Distler, both of Jefferson City. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Colletta Rademan and Rosemary Schwartz; and two brothers, Anthony Distler and Cletus Distler. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 noon Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice, 5650 Weatherhill Road, Rochester, MN 55902.
