MELVIN LEE WAGNER

November 18, 1917 — December 14, 2007

Melvin Lee Wagner, 90, of Jefferson City, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2007, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center. He was born on Nov. 18, 1917, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., the son of William Flay and Clara Katharina Magdalena Koeppel Wagner. He was married on June 2, 1943, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., to Dorothy Anna Nothdurft who survives at the home. Mr. Wagner was a 1936 graduate of Cape Central High School in Cape Girardeau and attended Southeast Missouri State University. He was employed as Maintenance Engineer for International Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau and St. Louis. In 1970 he was transferred to the footwear distribution center in Jefferson City where he retired in 1983 after forty-five years of service in the shoe industry. While in Cape Girardeau he represented the shoe company in negotiations and in building the Cape Girardeau Flood Wall by serving as president of the North Main Street Levee District. He was a life-long member of Grace United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau where in was confirmed in 1928, and a member of First United Methodist Church, Jefferson City. He was active in Boy Scout Troop No. 2 and Cub Scout Pack No. 6, both in Cape Girardeau. He greatly enjoyed fishing and reading. Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn D. and David Hubbard, Cape Girardeau; two sons and one daughter-in-law, David L. Wagner, Jefferson City; and Charles W. and Sandra Wagner, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Fla.; three grandsons and their wives, Charles E. and Jacqueline Wagner, Columbia, Ill.; Scott D. and Melissa Hubbard, Cape Girardeau; and Brian C. Hubbard, Cape Girardeau; one step-granddaughter and her husband, Donna and Paul Christian, Tampa. Fla.; four great-grandchildren, Joshua and Britney Hubbard; and Amelia and Eli Wagner; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Wagner and Charline Caldwell, both of Cape Girardeau; and three nephews, Robert Wagner, Jackson, Mo.; John Caldwell, Cape Girardeau; and Stuart Caldwell, New York City, N.Y. He was preceded in death by one brother, Delmar A. Wagner; and one niece, Anita Wagner Parrish. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with the Rev. Daniel Hilty officiating. Entombment will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19th, at Cape Girardeau County Memorial Park Mausoleum with the Rev. Scott Moon officiating. Visitation will be noon until time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
