MELBURN ALEXANDER GIBSON

July 2, 1916 — April 26, 2005

Melburn Alexander Gibson, 88, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Westphalia Retirement Center, Westphalia, MO. He was born on July 2, 1916, in Auburn, MO, the son of James Thomas and Lena Smiley Gibson, and was raised by his uncle, George B. Smiley, of Hannibal, MO. He was married on Dec. 7, 1940 in St. Louis, MO, to Phyllis Maxine Holt who died on May 14, 1998. Mr. Gibson was a 1934 graduate of Hannibal High School; a 1936 graduate of Hannibal LaGrange College; and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Missouri School of Mines in 1938. He served as District Superintendent with Missouri Power and Light Company in Mexico from 1938 to 1974, and later with AmerenUE in Jefferson City until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Jefferson City; a former member of First Baptist Church, Mexico; and the Mexico Kiwanis Club. Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law, James T. Gibson, San Diego, CA; and Jeffrey and Dianna Gibson, Irving, Texas; and three granddaughters, Georgia, Victoria, and Catherine Gibson, all of Irving, Texas. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Gibson. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Jefferson City, with the Reverend Dr. Rudolph Beard officiating. Burial will be in Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 29th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to American Lung Association, 1118 Hampton Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63139-3196.
