MATHILDA JOSEPHINE SOMMERS

September 21, 1916 — April 27, 2009

Mathilda Josephine Sommers, 92, of Jefferson City died Monday, April 27, 2009 at Jefferson City Manor Care Center. She was born on September 21, 1916, in Loose Creek, the daughter of the late Frank and Josephine Kremer Haslag. She was united in marriage on September 1, 1937, in Loose Creek, to Vincent Richard Sommers. He died July 5, 2002. A homemaker all of her life she was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Survivors include: three daughters and sons-in-law, Rose Mary Schaefer and Nino Cruz, Florissant; Elizabeth Ann and Lowell Ginter, Greeley, Colo; Joanne Helen and Stephen Falter, Westphalia; two sons and daughters-in-law, Edward Charles and Rosetta Sommers, and Gary Wayne and Linda Sommers, all of Jefferson City; daughter-in-law, Lucie Hess, Columbia; thirteen grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; one step-great-great-grandchild; one brother and his wife, Harry and Margie Haslag, Springfield, MO; and one sister-in-law, Agatha Haslag, Centertown. She was preceded in death by one son, Richard Sommers, one grandson, Jason Falter; two brothers, Joe Haslag and Herman Haslag; and one sister, Ann Schmitz. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2009, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Wardsville, with the Rev. Gregory C. Meystrik officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Memorials are suggested to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 6418 Route W, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or Alzheimers Association, 2400 Bluff Creek, Drive, Columbia, MO 65201.
