MARY ELIZABETH WALZ

Mary Elizabeth Walz, 91, of Jefferson City, formerly of Columbia, died Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born on May 6, 1918, in St. Joseph, Missouri, the daughter of Thaddeus M. and Martha A. Gittings. She was united in marriage to J. Milton Sommer in 1939, who died in 1950. She later married Quentin Walz in 1957. He died in 1989. A homemaker all her life, she was a former member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Jefferson City, and Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Columbia, Mo. Mary greatly enjoyed bridge club, painting, and traveling. Survivors include: one daughter, Patricia Rothove, Jefferson City; and one grandson, Jason Rothove, Jefferson City. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and two brothers, Edward and T. M. Gittings. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2009, in the Chapel of the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Joseph L. Shetler officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association, 915 Country Ridge Drive, Jefferson City, Mo 65109.
