Lucille Irene Bode

Lucille Irene Bode, 96, fortified by the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, died Saturday, November 15, 2003, at Capital Region Medical Center. She was born on June 29, 1907 in Lead, South Dakota, the daughter of Alfred Lind and Elsie Andersson Lind. She was married on July 8, 1927 in Jefferson City to Leonard Francis Bode who died on April 7, 1994. Mrs. Bode was a 1924 graduate of Lead High School; attended Northern States Teachers College, Aberdeen, South Dakota; and graduated in 1926 from Mankato Business College, Mankato, Minnesota. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Edward L. and Jewell Rae Bode, Jefferson City; grandchildren, Ann L. and her husband Michael Monday, Omaha, Nebraska; and John B. Bode, Naples, Florida; step grandchildren and spouses, Michael H. and Vicky Lichius, St. Louis; and Julianna and David Bowes, Albuquerque, New Mexico; great-grandchildren, Ben Monday and Mary Sarah Monday; and step-great-grandchildren, Brittany Stephens and Jesse Steele. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Stoll Bode on June 30, 1999; and two brothers, Herman A. Lind and Junior A. Lind. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at St. Joseph Cathedral with the Rev. Frederick J. Elskamp officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Those wishing to email condolences to the family may do so at www.dulletrimble.com Mrs. Bode served fifty-nine and half years under seven judges with the former Cole County Probate Court (now Division Three of the Cole County Circuit Court) serving as Clerk from 1927 to 1930 and again from 1944 to 1974; and as Assistant Clerk from 1974 until her retirement in 2000. A devoted grandmother, she was a charter member of the Cathedral of Saint Joseph and a member of the Ladies Sodality. A life-long bridge player and member of the American Contract Bridge League, she and her husband were named Mr. and Mrs. Bridge of Jefferson City for their long time success playing duplicate bridge. Lucille was active in Girl Scout work. She trained the first class of Candy Stripers at St. Marys Hospital where she was also a Red Cross Nurses Aide during World War II. She was an avid sports follower for more than seventy years.
