LORAIN S. JONES

Lorain S. Jones, 99, of Jefferson City, died Friday, October 16, 2009, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center.
She was born on March 20, 1910, in Westphalia, Mo., the daughter of the late John Bernard and Antonia Luebbert Scheppers. She was married on Jan. 25, 1941, in Kansas City, Mo., to B. Frank Jones who died on Dec. 23, 1979. Mrs. Jones was a graduate of Meta High School and had attended business college. She was employed as the first telephone operator in Meta, Mo. and from there went to work at the Missouri Public Service Commission. She later moved to Kansas City, Mo., where she worked for the Kansas City Water Company, Pratt Whitney Company, and Skelly Oil Company before moving back to Jefferson City. She retired from Scholastic, Inc., Jefferson City. Mrs. Jones was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality; and a former member of Daughters of Isabella; St. Marys Hospital Auxiliary; and the Audubon Society. She loved birds, gardening, cutting grass, and going out to her farm. She was an excellent cook and will always be remembered for those wonderful Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at her home and her homemade pizza. She was truly a gentle woman with a heart of gold and a beautiful smile. She will be sadly missed.
She is survived by one sister, Roxana Woodland, Jefferson City; one niece, Mary Woodland, Jefferson City; three nephews, August E. Gus Scheppers, Jefferson City; Jim Woodland, Wien, Mo.; and Mike (Renee) Woodland, Mt Vernon, Mo.; four great-nieces; two great-nephews; two great-great-nephews; and one great-great-niece. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Gus Scheppers and Lambert Scheppers.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 27, 2009, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Donald W. Lammers officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery following anatomical study at the University of Missouri. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church or Vogelweid Learning Center, both at 216 Broadway St., Jefferson City, MO 65101. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
