LESTER CLEMENCE SURFACE

August 5, 1935 — May 25, 2010

Lester Clemence Surface, 74, of Taos, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at St. Marys Health Center.
He was born on August 5, 1935, in Jefferson City, the son of Clem and Frankie Elgin Surface. His mother survives in Jefferson City. Lester was a Sergeant First Class with the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage on January 7, 1956, in Jefferson City, to Glessie Marie Lock who resides at the home. Lester was a truck driver most of his life. He also owned and operated several small businesses throughout the area. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, VFW, and the Marine Corps League. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and most especially spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Other survivors include: four children, Craig (Jeanna) Surface; Lori (Rick) Sullens; Doug (Anita) Surface; Amy (ONeil) Wieberg; one daughter-in-law, Tami Surface, all of Taos; a foster child, Chris Schaefer, Bolivar, Mo; nineteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and seven siblings, Minnie (Gene) Kirwan, Jefferson City; Linda Holiday, McGirk; Faye (Ray) Woods, California; Patsy Bottoms, Jefferson City; Danny Surface, McGirk; Verna (Gary) Clark, McGirk; and Birdie (Walter) McFeeter, Versailles. He was preceded in death by his father; one son, Mitch Surface; one granddaughter, Cory Nichole Surface; and one brother, Troy Surface.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, May 28, 2010, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:30-8 p.m. Thursday, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the charity of the donors choice.
