LEROY CHARLES HENTGES

November 15, 1916 — July 14, 2008

Leroy Charles Hentges, 91, of Jefferson City, died Monday, July 14, 2008, at Moniteau Care Center in California, Mo. He was born on Nov. 15, 1916, in Jefferson City, the son of Nicholas and Caroline Distler Hentges. He was married on Nov. 17, 1938, in Jefferson City to Mary Frances Leuthen who died on Oct. 25, 2002. A graduate of St. Peter High School, Mr. Hentges was a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service in Jefferson City from 1948 to 1970, and was a rural letter carrier in Meta, Mo. from 1970 until his retirement in 1978. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Holy Name Society; Knights of Columbus; American Legion; and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Marguerite and Peter Rinaldi, Sloan, Iowa; Frances and Darrell Schulte, Jefferson City; and Helen and Carl Drinkard, California, Mo.; four sons and their wives, William and Melba Hentges, Sumter, S.C.; Robert and Martha Hentges, Jefferson City; Richard and Lucille Hentges, Holts Summit, Mo.; and Thomas and Lynn Hentges, Edmond, Okla.; twenty-six grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Nadine Shahan, Lohman, Mo.; and Frances and Bernard Meller, Holts Summit, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one son, John Charles Hentges; one grandson, Charles Henry Hentges; two brothers, Herbert Hentges and Eugene Hentges; and five sisters, Helen Hentges; Leona Mertens; Mary Grace Griggs; Eleanor Raithel; and Martha Kaiser. Mass of Christian Burial will be 12 noon, Friday, July 18, 2008, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick G. Dolan officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Thursday, July 17th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Endowment Fund, 1206 E.
