LEONARD WALTER SANNING

February 29, 1932 — February 21, 2004

Leonard Walter Sanning, 71, of Taos, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004 at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on February 29, 1932 in Cole County, the son of Theodore J. Sanning and Antonia Castrop Sanning. He was married on September 13, 1958 in Westphalia to Helen Marie Rehagen who survives at the home. Other survivors include three sons and their wives, Daniel and Paula Sanning, Joseph and Dawn Sanning, both of Taos; Thomas and Sarah Sanning, Jefferson City; four daughters and sons-in-law, Carole and Dennis Hughes, Joyce and David Becker, both of Jefferson City; Rhonda and Ronald Rackers, and Laura and Bryan Lootens, both of Taos; thirteen grandchildren; and two sisters, Anna Marie Pickert, Kansas City; and Margaret Benne, Jefferson City. He was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Robert Benne and Claron J. Pickert. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. J. David Maher officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. An additional visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 7319 Rt. M, Jefferson City, MO 65101; Peru Missions through the Diocese of Jefferson City, 605 Clark Ave., Jefferson City, MO 65102-0417; or Birthright of Mid-Missouri, 224 W. Mr. Sanning was a 1950 graduate of St. Joseph High School, Westphalia, and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War serving from 1952 to 1954. He was engaged in farming all his life and also had an excavating service. He was a life long member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church where he served as communion minister, parish council, usher, school board, RCIA team member, and Cursillo Movement. He was a promoter of vocations through Vocare Club and a member of the board of directors of Cole County FSA and MFA Oil Company, and a member of the Osage River Flood Control.
