LEONARD HERMAN LUEBBERT

Leonard Herman Luebbert, 88, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Golden Living Center. He was born on Nov. 6, 1920, in Maries County, Mo., the son of the late Conrad J. and Elizabeth A. Meyer Luebbert. He was married on Aug. 10, 1948, in Jefferson City to Virginia Elizabeth Hartman who died on April 5, 2009. Mr. Luebbert was a warehouseman for over thirty years at Shryack-Hirst Grocery Co., Jefferson City. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II with five bronze stars, he was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, an avid gardener and woodworker, and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Survivors include three daughters, Helen (Larry) Close, Gladstone, Mo.; Lois (Steve) Charsha, Independence, Mo.; and Jean (Brian) Tate, California, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Eric Hart, Sean Wyatt, Kristie Wyatt, Billy Metz, Rick Metz, Andy Metz, Bobby Metz, and Zach Tate; three great-grandchildren, Cire Hart, Will Metz, and Declan Tate; and eight sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary (Dewey) McLean, Blacksburg, Va.; Dorothy Jackson, Russellville, Mo.; Helen Prey, James Hartman, Charles (Carol) Hartman, and Ethel Hartman, all of Jefferson City; Jerry Hartman, Holts Summit, Mo.; and Simon “Pete” (Lillian) Hartman, Centertown, Mo. He was preceded in death by his step-father, John Fitzpatrick; two brothers, Louis Luebbert and Jerome Luebbert; and one sister, Ann Phillips. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 21, 2009, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Patrick G. Dolan officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with the Rosary recited at 5 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus, 2418 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
