LEIF WILLIAM BERNARD STRAND, SR.

May 1, 1925 — December 10, 2008

Leif William Bernard Strand, Sr., 83, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2008, at Capital Region Medical Center. Leif was born on May 1, 1925, in Chicago, IL to Ingrid and August Strand, who preceded him in death. He was married on Oct. 9, 1948, in Walworth, Wisconsin to Edith Marie Frankenberg, who preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2007. Leif was a World War II Pacific War veteran. Following his discharge from service, he returned to Wisconsin to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He was the founder of BeamCo (later to become Iseli) in 1952. He went on to found Swiss Tech in the 1960s. Both were metal precision screw factories located in Delavan, Wisconsin. In the 1970s he started Wal-Matic, also a metal precision screw factory, in Walworth, Wisconsin. Survivors include three sons, Eric Leif and Mary Strand, Milwaukee, WI; Neil Bernard and Judy Strand, Stuartstown, PA; and Leif, Jr. and Jocelyn Strand, Jefferson City, MO; four grandchildren, Corey and Pete Baltos; Brennan Strand, Alex Strand and Isabella Strand; one great granddaughter, Katie Baltos; and three sisters, one sister-in-law and one brother, June and Walter Nelmark, Ethel and Bob Taylor, Marget and Ken Sample, Rosemary Strand and Melvin and Merry Strand. He was proceeded in death by one son, Tristan William Strand; two brothers, Donnie Strand and Arnold Strand and one sister, Jordis Bogart. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2008, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with Rev. Scott B. Musselman officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Helias Foundation, P.O. Box 694, Jefferson City, Mo 65102-0694.
