LEANDER ANTHONY VOLMERT

Leander Anthony Curly Volmert, 75, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, October 10, 2004, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on January 11, 1929 in St. Thomas, the son of Bernard N. and Minnie Kolb Volmert He was married on November 26, 1955 in St. Thomas to Viola Adelia Loethen who survives at the home. Other survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Brenda Lee Wilson, Jefferson City; Marla and Gary Harris, Sedalia; and Paula and John Wilbers, Wardsville; two sons and their wives, Gary and Jeanene Volmert, Clever; and Russell and Barbara Volmert, St. Louis; thirteen grandchildren, Jesse Wilson, Emily Wilson, Tyler Harris, Megan Harris, Cameron Harris, Ashton Wilbers, Calvin Wilbers, Blake Wilbers, Mason Volmert, Shelby Volmert, Peter Volmert, Isabella Volmert, and John Paul Volmert; and one brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Imogene Volmert, St. Thomas. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald W. Lammers officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 12, 2004, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. Ten Mile Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109 (893-5251), with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Church Building Fund, 216 Broadway, Jefferson City, Mo 65101; Vogelweid Learning Center, 216 Broadway, Jefferson City, Mo 65101; or Helias Foundation, P.O. A 1947 graduate of Meta High School, Mr. Volmert served with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict at Camp Haugen, Japan. He was employed with Peoples Bank of St. Thomas; Bank Building and Equipment Corporation, St Louis; and retired as Engineering Sales Manager with DeLongs Incorporated where he had been employed fulltime from 1953 to 1992, and part-time from 1992 to 1996. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; the Parish Council; Holy Name Society; American Legion Post 5; and Western Catholic Union. He was a Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Council 2149 in St Thomas; Past Grand Knight of Knights of Columbus Helias Council 1054; and Past Navigator and member of the honor guard of Dan C. Coppen Fourth Degree Assembly, Knights of Columbus. Mr. Volmert enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling, ballgames, camping, and, above all, spending time with his family and grandchildren.
