LAWRENCE FRANCIS

Lawrence Francis Larry Scheuler, 74, of Lake Ozark, died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Lake Ozark Regional Hospital.
He was born on January 29, 1936, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Leo George and Matilda Kroll Scheuler. He was united in marriage on August 29, 1959, in Jefferson City, to Linda Hoyer who resides at the home. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a trip to the Northwest in August, 2009. He was a 1954 graduate of St. Peter High School, Jefferson City, and received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Lincoln University. Larry was a high school teacher for over thirty-one years teaching science and chemistry at the School of the Osage at Lake Ozark, Mo. He also was a coach for football and golf while teaching, and was affectionately known as Coach Shu. He enjoyed a distinguished high school and college football career.
In 1953, he received the Citys Most Valuable Player award in Jefferson City from the Radio Station KWOS. He received a grant from the National Science Foundation for continuing science studies and, for two summers in a row, packed up the entire family for the thrill of living in college dorm rooms at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Ill. His construction skills enabled him to build their beloved home on Lake of the Ozarks where he and Linda raised their three daughters. He was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. He was an avid fan of MU Football and St. Louis Cardinals. Larry enjoyed camping, hiking, and the outdoors.
Other survivors include: three children, Cheryl (Richard) Byrd, Rocky Mount, Mo; Janet (Paul Kim) Scheuler, Kansas City, Mo; Diane (Vince) Shelton, Nixa, Mo; five grandchildren, Christopher Byrd, Christina Gizzarelli, Lauren Shelton, Haley Shelton, Ronin Kim; four great-grandchildren, Carleena Byrd, Elam Byrd, Emalyn Byrd, Blaine Byrd; one sister, Doris (Louis) Markway, Wardsville; and one brother, Leo (Mary) Scheuler, Mexico. He was preceded in death by five sisters, Florence Lock, Rosalie Field, Jo Ann Hardin, Mary Raithel, and Leona Raithel; and four brothers, Thomas Scheuler, Ronald Scheuler, William Scheuler, and Raymond Scheuler.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City, with the Rev. Patrick G. Dolan officiating. Burial will be in Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Monday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association, 1944-A East Sunshine, Springfield, Mo 65804.
