LAWRENCE EMIL MELLER

December 24, 1920 — April 27, 2005

Lawrence Emil Meller, 84, of Lohman, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at St. Marys Health Center. He was born on Dec. 24, 1920 in Lohman, the son of Fred G. and Clara M. Limbach Meller. He was married on July 11, 1946 in St. Thomas to Elizabeth Cecilia Groner who died on Sept. 24, 2004. A 1938 graduate of Centertown High School, Mr. Meller was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving as a Technical Sergeant in the European Theater where he received five bronze stars. He was employed with Capital City Water Company from 1945 to 1951; was a postmaster and rural letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Lohman from 1951 to 1982; and was a life-long farmer in the Lohman area. He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church; U.S. Letter Carriers Association; Roy Sone Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1003; St. Martin Fifty-plus Club; and a founding member of the Lohman Community Association. Survivors include two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Kaye Meller, Lohman; and Tom and Karen Meller, Lohman; one daughter and son-in-law, Doris and Don Stockman, Wardsville; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Henry and Rose Meller, Lohman; and Pat and Rita Meller, Lohman; and two sisters and their husbands, Marie and Louis Hentges, Jefferson City; and Helen and Ralph Kirchner, Lohman. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Meller; and two brothers, Roy Meller and Sylvester Meller. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 30, 2005, at St. Martin Catholic Church with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in St. Martin Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 29th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church, 7148 St. Martins Avenue, Jefferson City, MO 65109; or a charity of the donors choice.
