LAURA MAY BURKLAND

August 8, 1925 — March 5, 2007

Laura May Buckland, 81, of Holts Summit, MO, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007, at St. Marys Health Center. She was born on Aug. 9, 1925, in Dorchester, England, the daughter of William George and Louisa James Legg. She was married on April 27, 1944, in Dorchester to Christopher David Buckland who died on May 3, 2006. An English war bride, Mrs. Buckland and her daughter arrived in the United States on May 1, 1946 to be reunited with her husband. The family resided in Binghamton, NY, for thirty years where they owned and operated Laura & Chriss Luncheonette for many years. They later owned and operated Dads Drive-in in Eldon, MO. For the past twenty years she has resided in Holts Summit. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Ozark Whirlers Square Dance Club. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Veronica Ronnie and Art Ritter, Benton, AR; one son and daughter-in-law, Christopher, Jr. and Margaret Maggie Buckland, Holts Summit, MO; five grandchildren, Eric Ritter, Bret Ritter, Hollie Easterling, Amber Mader, and Branden Buckland; nine great-grandchildren, Brody Ritter, Hannah Ritter, Jared Ritter, Alyssa Easterling, Caleb Easterling, Logan Easterling, Lauren Ritter, Meagan Mader, and Macey Ritter; one sister and brother-in-law, Freda and Kenneth Nixon, North Carolina; and one brother and two sisters-in-law, William and Anne Legge, Bournemouth, England; and Gladys Legg, Dorchester, England. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Ivy Legg; and three brothers, Syril, Fred, and Leonard Legg. Funeral services will be held in Binghamton, New York. Local visitation will be 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2007, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Vestal Hills Memorial Gardens, Binghamton, NY. Memorials are suggested to the New Bloomfield Order of Eastern Star Chapter; or Westminster Presbyterian Church, Little Rock, AR.
