Joyce Elizabeth Matthews Weber, 65, of Jefferson City, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. She was born January 16, 1952, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the daughter of the late Dr. John Immel Jack and Delma Rita Peggy (Ostenfeld) Matthews. She was united in marriage on March 19, 1977 at Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City, MO, to James M. Weber, Jr. Joyce graduated from Helias Catholic High School in 1970. She then enrolled at St. Louis University and later at the University of Missouri, graduating with a B.A. in English Literature in 1974. She then attended Kansas State University where she earned her M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communications in 1976. She subsequently attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City where she received a Lifetime Secondary Education Teaching Certificate and her Paralegal Certification. She was an educator at Helias Catholic High School from the mid-1970s until 1984. She moved on to serve as an administrative assistant at the Missouri Office of State Court Administrator in its Judicial Education Branch until her retirement in 2013. Before and after her retirement, Joyce worked for several years in various organizing and leadership capacities within Helias Catholics performing arts programs, most recently as the director of its Spring Musical. Joyce was an active member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. She was a former member of the Board of Directors for Jefferson City Montessori School and Jefferson City Little Theater. She loved to travel and explore new places. She was an ardent supporter of the Arts both locally and professionally and was a former member of The Little Theater and Irish Road Company. She especially loved working with the many young men and women from Helias Catholic performing arts and play programs. She was a voracious reader, a poised and facile writer and an engaging and entertaining events speaker. She loved good food, baking, and socializing with friends and family. Joyce was a bottomless source of energy, enthusiasm and optimism who was always clever and upbeat, featuring a unique ability to always bring out the best from herself and those around her. Survivors include her husband, James M. Weber, in Jefferson City; two children Elizabeth Weber Haynes (Charles), Jefferson City; Jason Weber, Salem, OR; two brothers, Jim Matthews (Jeanne), Lenexa, KS; John Matthews, Mission, KS; and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as Buddy, her beloved Beagle. A Service of Celebration will be held at 11am Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Visitation will immediately follow until 2pm.
