Joseph Jack Glavan

Joseph Jack Glavan, 91, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, November 15, 2015, at his residence. He was born August 21, 1924, in Farrell, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Joseph and Amelia (Troyer) Glavan. Jack graduated from Sharon High School in Sharon, PA; received his Bachelors degree from Youngstown University, in Youngstown, Ohio, and received his Masters degree from Lincoln University. Jack was united in marriage on October 14, 1950, at Sacred Heart Parish in Sharon, Pennsylvania to E. Bernadine Dickens who survives. Jack began working for Westinghouse in 1943 at the Transformer Division in Sharon, Pa. In 1972, he transferred to Jefferson City and retired in 1986. During his career he held various management positions in the Engineering Department. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph and a former member of the Kiwanis Club. Jack also volunteered with Habit for Humanity. In his early years, Jack became an Eagle Scout. Jack was an avid sports enthusiast. He was a sports writer for the Sharon Herald, a football and basketball referee, and a scorekeeper for the Sharon Speedway. He enjoyed golfing which included two holes-in-one. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Bernadine Glavan; three children, John R. (Teri) Glavan, Colorado Springs, CO; Mary C. (Philip) Wood, West Bloomfield, MI.; M. Cynthia (John) Stewart, Kernersville, NC; ten grandchildren, Sean Glavan, Erin Glavan, Jonathan Glavan, Kristy Wood, Michael Wood, Carey Mitchell, Jacqueline Stewart, Christa Ross, Dana Martin, William "Billy" Schulze; five great-grandchildren; and a son-in-law, William Schulze, Monument, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, M. Catherine Schulze; a sister, Millie DeCarmen; and a brother, Albert Glavan. Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Memorials are suggested to the non-for-profit Sisters HOPE, P.O. Box 250732, West Bloomfield, MI 48325-0732 which benefits the HOPE Retreat for Breast Cancer Survivors created by his daughter Cathy Schulze.
