Joseph Betros

Joseph Betros, 68, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital.

He was born on November 5, 1950, in Trenton, New Jersey, the son of the late Wilbur J. and Agnes M. (Sayegh) Betros.

He was united in marriage on September 10, 1977, at the Royal Air Force Greenham Common in England to Janet Marian Benson who survives at the home.

Joe served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a Public Health Advisor for the Centers for Disease Control for 29 years.

A federally-licensed “Amateur Extra” class radio operator holding the call sign KBØQHZ, Joe was a member of the American Radio Relay League , Amateur Radio Emergency Service, and was a past president of the Mid-MO Amateur Radio Club.

He was an active volunteer communicator with the Multiple Sclerosis annual MS-150 Bike Ride for many years; served as Emergency Coordinator of the Cole County Amateur Radio Emergency Service; and was an officer with the State Emergency Management Agency’s Amateur Radio Club.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Cole County Sheriff’s Posse. He enjoyed scuba diving, photography, pistol shooting competitions, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Janet Betros, Jefferson City; two children, Sandy (Adam) Kincaid, St. Martins; and Mike (Sarah) Betros, Jefferson City; one granddaughter, Molly Betros; and two brothers, his twin Robert Betros, Trenton, NJ; and Charles "Chuck" (Patricia) Betros, Trenton, NJ.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with the Rev. Scott Musselman officiating.

Burial with military honors will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Memorials are suggested to the Disabled American Veterans.
