Joseph Bernard Massman

Joseph Bernard "Joe" Massman, 86, of Westphalia, passed away Monday, February 15, 2016, at his residence. He was born April 2, 1929, in St. Elizabeth, the son of the late William Joseph and Mary Agnes (Lueckenhoff) Massman. He was united in marriage on October 20, 1951, in St. Elizabeth to Dora Marie Johannesmeyer who survives at the home. Joe worked for Holterman Sales and Service for over 19 years. He then started Massman Plumbing and Wiring in 1973 and worked until his retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, Westphalia Lions Club for 42 years, Knights of Columbus for 25 years, and the Westphalia Senior Citizens. Joe was a past member of the Westphalia Volunteer Fire Department and served as Fire Chief in 1976. He also bowled and sponsored the Massman Plumbing and Wiring Bowling team for 25 years. Joe was the recipient of the 1987 Anton Johannesmeyer Annual Award and the 2009 AJ Schwartze Memorial Award. Joe was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved to play cards, horseshoes, fishing, and sitting on the front porch along Main Street in Westphalia. He also enjoyed going camping and making colorful campfires, making popcorn balls, and always working hard. Survivors include his wife, Dora Massman; ten children, William "Bill" (Mary Jane) Massman; James "Sadie" (Darlene) Massman; Daniel "Raaa" Massman; Susan "Sue" Wieberg; Douglas "Slug" (Linda) Massman; Donna "Feenie"(Jerry) Weber; Samuel "Pete" (Jane) Massman; Chris "Pissy" (Tammy) Massman; Nicholas "Alb" Massman; Patrick "Crotch" (Suzanne) Massman; a daughter-in-law, Denise Massman, all located within 5 miles of home in Westphalia; 26 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren with two more on the way; a brother-in-law, Herman Brenneke; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Lueckenhoff. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Carl "Muscles" Massman; a daughter-in-law, Judy Massman; a son-in-law, Marty "Putter" Wieberg; two brothers, John and Norbert Massman; three sisters, Rosie Massman, Therese Brasier, Dorothy Brenneke; and a brother-in-law, Bernie Lueckenhoff. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia with a prayer service at 3 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with the Rev. Mark. S. Smith officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph Catholic School, P.O. Box 205, Westphalia, MO 65085.
