John Edward Rosell, Sr.

November 30, 1925 — April 4, 2015

John Edward "Jack" Rosell, Sr., 89, died of natural causes at Jefferson City Manor Care Center on Saturday, April 4, 2015. He was born on November 30, 1925, in Wichita, Kansas. He was the third of the eight children born to Earl Maxwell and Rosella (Ante) Rosell. He attended Catholic schools in Wichita graduating from St. Mary's Cathedral High School in 1943. He served in the Merchant Marines in both the Atlantic and the Pacific fronts during World War II. He married Mildred Binder on October 7, 1946. They were blessed with eleven children. John worked for several years in Wichita as a carpenter and later as an electrician, owning Rosell Electric Company. In 1962, he began a twenty-year career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in El Reno, Oklahoma. He held numerous positions, including Power House Engineer, Electrician, and Chief of Mechanical Services, working at several facilities, including McNeil Island Penitentiary in Washington State. He retired at the US Medical Center for Federal Prisoners in Springfield, Missouri. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield, MO, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Stephen's Ministry, board member of "The Kitchen", and Alcoholics Anonymous with over 50 years sobriety. He is survived by his former wife Mildred and children Sharon Rosell, Ellenburg, WA; John (Cheryl) Rosell, Jr., Monument CO; Susan Strickland, Springfield, MO; William (Sarah) Rosell, Thornton, CO; Janice Rosell, Tacoma, WA; David (Lori) Rosell, Fountain Valley, CA; Theresa (Darin) Mason, Mulvane, KS; Gregory (Patricia) Rosell, Sammamish, WA; Dennis Rosell, Hobbs, NM; Richard Rosell, Springfield, MO; and Denise (John) Tuck, Jefferson City; 30 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his brother, William (Janet) Rosell, Auburn Hills, MI; sister-in-laws, Helen Roberta Rosell and Doris Crippen; and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Maxine, Beatrice and Marilyn; his brothers Virgil, Franklin and Richard; two granddaughters Jennifer Joann Strickland and Beth Ann Davies; and a daughter-in-law, Paula Rosell. The family wishes to thank the staff at Jefferson City Manor Care Center for John's excellent care. Visitation will be 10-11:15 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield, Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:15 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Springfield, Missouri with the Rev. Michael McDevitt and Rev. Thomas Reidy officiating. Burial with military honors will be 1 p.m. Friday, April 10, 2015, at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Springfield.
