John Arthur Jungden

John Arthur Jungden, 88, of Westphalia, formerly of Kansas City, MO passed away Monday, Nov 14, 2016, at Westphalia Hills Retirement Center. He was born October 31, 1928, in Kansas City, the son of the late John Ellsworth "Jack" and Clare Yvonne (O'Leary) Yaryan. He was united in marriage on October 16, 1954, in Kansas City, to Barbara (Scherer) Jungden who survives at Westphalia Hills Retirement Center. John was adopted at the age of 17 by his late stepfather Arthur Carl "Pete" Jungden at which time his birth name, John Ellsworth Yaryan, Jr., was changed to John Arthur Jungden. He joined the United States Marine Corps, that same year, and was assigned to the Main Gate Detachment at Pearl Harbor. He was stationed on the USS Curtis, a lab ship that made trips to the South Pacific to do atomic weapons testing at the Eniwetok Atoll. He later served in the 5th Howitzer Battalion U.S.M.C. Reserve in Kansas City, MO that was mobilized and stationed at Sangley Point Naval Air Station in the Philippines during the Korean Conflict. John continued his service to others for 27 years as a Kansas City police officer and retired in March 1987. He enjoyed camping and gardening. In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, he is survived by daughter, Janet Case (Larry) Jefferson City, MO; son, Brian Jungden (Maureen) Kansas City, MO; six grandchildren, Emily Walters (Matt), Sam Jungden, Lainey Jungden, Tara Jungden, Mitchell Case (Emmalyn), all of Kansas City, MO and Melissa Carter Case, Los Angeles, CA; two great-grandchildren, Eleanor and Samuel Walters, Kansas City, MO; one brother-in-law, Don Ulibarri, Chicago, IL; three sisters-in-law, Helen Ulibarri, Round Lake, IL, Barbara Scherer, Fredricksburg, TX and Carol Scherer, Belton, TX; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Steven Jungden; his wife's parents Theodore Oscar and Mary Francis Scherer; and two brothers-in-law, Theodore Oscar Scherer, Jr. and Douglas Carr Scherer. Family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia, MO with funeral service following at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Kansas City, MO at 10 a.m. on Friday November 25, 2016.
