John Anthony Bollinger

July 28, 1928 — October 25, 2020

John Anthony Bollinger, 92, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2020, at University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

He was born July 28, 1928, in McGirk, Missouri, the son of the late Orla M. and Dolan C. (Baker) Bollinger.

He was a 1946 graduate of Tipton High School.

John joined the United States Army on November 10, 1950. He served in Korea from May of 1951 to March of 1952. He was honorably discharged on August 12, 1952.

He was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth Kraus on May 17, 1952, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City. John and Mary celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary in May.

John worked for Crown Drug Store, Lincoln-Mercury Car Dealership, and the Missouri State Highway Department. He retired on March 31, 1993.

John was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where he served as a hospitality minister, parish council member, and a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader for Pack 6 and Troop 6 at Immaculate Conception School. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 5 and a lifetime member of the Missouri State Highway Employees Association. Furthermore, John volunteered for the Missouri River Hospice, Option Care at Immaculate Conception, and the Samaritan Center.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Bollinger, Jefferson City; three children, Dennis (Denise) Bollinger, Franklin, TN; Janet Bollinger, O’Fallon, MO; Carol (Daniel) Schmer, Kansas City, MO; three grandchildren, Michael (Bevin) Schmer, Jason (Ann) Bollinger, Julie Bollinger; two great-grandchildren, Jillian Schmer, Brooks Bollinger; and two siblings, Maxine Martin, Clarksburg, MO; and Kenneth (Joyce) Bollinger, Jefferson City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two siblings, Raymond (Carlene) Bollinger, Louise (James) Irey, and one brother-in-law, Frederic Martin.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2020, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald Antweiler officiating.

Entombment with military honors will be in Resurrection Catholic Mausoleum.

Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Endowment Fund, Jefferson City Samaritan Center or Missouri Right to Life.
