James Theodore Purcell, Jr.

James "Jim" Theodore Purcell, Jr., 83, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2014, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on June 28, 1930, in New Madrid, Missouri, the son of the late James Theodore Purcell, Sr. and Lora Maye (Jimerson) Purcell. Jim was a 1948 graduate of New Madrid High School and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 1952. He was united in marriage on September 12, 1953, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau to Margaret Jane Reilly who survives. Jim worked as a supervisor for the Missouri Division of Employment Security for 38 years retiring in 1992. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph; Bishop McAuliff Knight of Columbus Council; 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Dan C. Coppin Council; was past President and Treasurer of the Christopher Casey Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution; and was a past board member and Treasurer for the ABLE Learning Center. In addition to his wife, Jim is survives by a son, Larry (Mary) Purcell, Warrensburg; two grandchildren, Nicholas Purcell and Mary Kathryn Purcell, both of Warrensburg; and two brothers, Jay (Joanne) Purcell, Houston Texas; and Murray (Gail) Purcell, Mexico, Mo. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Leopold, Missouri. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a rosary recited at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to ABLE Learning Center, 501 Madison Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65101; or to St. Joseph Catholic School 2303 West Main Street, Jefferson City, Mo 65109.
